October 18 Back on the road again 13°C, light & daubs of orange. 70 miles cycilng wearing the same clothes again.: Off to see Devon Sproule later. October 15 Maybe AspenOctober 14 Aberystwyth_HDR01 15°C, grey-dry. Aberystwyth is a worthy visit. this is a High-Dynamic-range picture- using three exposures added together. They were only 1 stop apart but I now think more 2 stops would have been better. ![]() I'm giong to try this technique again; but it's only worthwhile when the view is unmoving and the camera is fixed down to something solid October 06 Revenge of the Lawn 19°C, warm rain. A utilitarian choice of read. Bedtime is time for a short read for me. It has ot be short because lying down makes me fall asleep- even in daytime. This book is full of short stories, I say it like that because there are so many of them in a thin book. One of them is only a few lines long. It's nice to just to read his voice, though often the stories hold a pang of some sort that only Brautigan can reach in my (limited) experience. ![]() October 05 I used to...15°C, light grey Sleep paralysis: BBC. I used to get this in my mid 20s. It was a long time ago I know, but quite unforgettable. There was no sensation that someone was in the room, let alone sitting on my chest, but I did get the waking immobile part. sometimes there was a loud deep-bassy buzzing sound though. A frightening experience for which there was no explanation from anyone I asked. I never found a cure, it simply went away all by itself. ![]() This picture by Fuselli is widely described as an image illustrating the phenomenon. There are numerous paranormal explanations but of course, as is usual with with that sort of thing, they are wrong. I have always secretly loved this artist's works, especially the scarcely printed "Dead baby". October 04 Succession (contingent upon) 15°C, clear, minimal breeze Secession: could this be the word I am looking for? We need (as you know from previous posts on here) a word for the process of nature reclaiming derelict man-made sites. this Beech is watching you from Beaudesert. On second thoughts, Succession is pretty close to the idea I had in mind, see here: Wiki October 02 Seaside-gulls are inland 15°C, winds brewing Have the gulls moved away from the seas. There are plenty here, mostly the usual inland landfill-site-gulls, but now there are a few sea gull making the seaside gull sound. Maybe there is some truth in the story that they fly inland to escape the big storms out at sea. There is a big low system bearing down the northern approaches. October 01 Central heating day 15°C, cooler, but the sun is still colourful NEWS: "People don't wear clothing to keep warm any more". This rings true, and has been a cause of friction in this house over the years. It strikes me as obscene to switch the house heating on before you have started to add layers of clothes to keep warm. Today is supposedly "Central heating day". Sounds like media nonsense to me, but I have known this happen. Can't forsee switching on until after October though. September 30 longer is easier 17°C, brightening Made it half-way home before remembering something left behind. The ride back then added 8 miles to the total journey. But contrary to expectation that made the ride home easier. It's all about the benefits of a good warm up. I can only conclude that cycling to work would be easier if work was further away. ![]() Morning briefing & a bit of assembly. September 27 Cadair insteadSeptember 24 CloudbaseSeptember 20 Damn strangenessSeptember 19 found of... er: Melodic Death Browsing an upmarket dating site I found this gem: I love this world (from a little ray of sun on my hand to fresh summer rains). Try to find my way in an endless stream of life and to surruond myself with people whose souls contain a little part of my own world. I fond of music ( heavy metal, thrash, melodic death, symphonis rock, folk, jazz, blues etc.), write poetry and lyrics by myself. Found of foreign languages, history and psychology. The writer was Russian, you'd never guess.September 17 Fruits de mere 15°C, cloudy, but the water stays up there. It's been a week since a post, that's what happens to brains befuddled by a head-cold. A lot has happened though. Last weekend's fabulous camping escape; crossing the Glyderau; beach day on Fairbourne with a new friend; school things, jarring recollections of the distressing side-salad incident. I'll never forget that salad- it was an emotional experience. Below: the Glyderscape, is this a real place on earth that we visited? ... Above: Snowdon is in the background September 08 Wet oil 22°C, wind and warm cloud There is a gap in the evenings. I am painting in that gap now, but it's asking too much to expect the sleepless gap in the night to close. Would that it were so. Gravity's Angel: You can dance. You can make me laugh. You've got x-ray eyes. September 05 Paris, Je T'aime18°C, clouding Paris, Je T'aime: utterly charming film, a series of short stories with the obvious backdrop. Some were more french in flavour, some less so. Overall, they reflected the multinational city in a set of moving, sometimes tragic set pieces. A beautiful film. September 03 I'm soft with fatigue, I need something... 14°C, showers & moving air from the northern approaches New books to tease me while I finish the current one.there are too many here- nice problem to have. Brautigan has a fine voice, it's a plain melody to listen to while reading. Approved of by the English department, they want to use them to teach short story analysis. what a great conversation that started- went so far that we want to take kids up Yr Wyddfa in bad weather and take turns reading and thinking romanticism. No it's nothing to do with boy+girl stuff, this is just as big but ignored by city folk. stop and listen to the quietness and it's just as loud- it has a big voice. Tide in. All the photos are in my memory, it was too wet to get the camera out this week. The grass, channels and clay-slip mud banks. What a contrast to those raw frightening but sublime summits of the last few trips. Am I getting worse? August 30 dizzle softly 18°C, soft drizzle, warm, humid & demotivating. Cycle 38miles Third ride this week where the start and finish were in good conditions but the middle- miserable penetrating drizzle. Packing bags again. See you... Fugitive Motel : Lost in a lullaby [Elbow] August 29 Frogs dodging the combine17°C, westerlies continue. Cycle 36 Miles. Better start packing again. Cycled slowly to start with- combine harvesters only do 12 mph on a single-track road, no room to pass. But after 6 wheels rolled over along 3 tracks, a perfectly unharmed frog flopped several times to the verge.Lucky damned frog: there go the quick, here are the dead. He was too fast to catch on camera. May your luck contine.. August 28 Fargo 17°C, heavy showers, cold wind from the northern approaches, cycle 24 miles.soaked. Coen Brothers: Fargo- I'm seeing a pattern now, the landscape is different in this film, but its role is the same. This one is funnier than the last one (No country for Old men). I'm tired and don't really know why; well, I do but can't confide. There is someone out there. The iPod collection is growing rapidly with generous loans from Peter. The gadget has developed a dominantly melancholic mood; that's my iPod! Somebody Loves You Somebody Loves You |
